Years 7-9
Middle School Curriculum 2011+
INTRODUCTION
The Heatherton Christian College
Secondary curriculum adheres to community expectations in that it is clearly based upon the government
guidelines as set out in the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). Our curriculum is submitted to the
Registered Schools Board for approval and is reviewed annually. This includes an inspection visit to the school
at the beginning of the year.
It is the College’s aim to
help students understand the relationship between God and His creation in everything they are learning and doing
in the classroom.
We believe all truth
originates from God and His Word and that academic study is one part of that truth. We know more about God because of education:
· in the ability to read the Scriptures
· to understand the universe through science and
mathematics
· to understand our world and its story through geography and
history
· to understand each other through language, writing and the
arts.
We believe it is not possible
to understand any field of study separate from the knowledge of God. Christ, not man, is the centre of the
curriculum.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”.
(Proverbs 1:7)
Heatherton Christian College endeavours to
provide subjects which are stimulating and exciting, and which provide the basic skills for life for an
educated person.
It is our prayer that
students attending this College will experience success and the blessing of the Lord Jesus Christ.
“And all your children will be taught by the
Lord, and great will be the peace of your children”. (Isaiah 54:13)
