About Grade 2, 2010
Photo to come.....
Hi, my name is Micah Webb and I am the Grade 2 teacher at Heatherton Christian College.
I have been teaching at HCC for three years and am very excited to be teaching the Terrific Two’s this year. I
feel so privileged to work alongside the parents of these wonderful children. It is such a blessing to be teaching
such a loving, energetic and enthusiastic class and see their real desire to learn.
We are all very excited about what this year holds and look forward to learning many new things. Some
things we are learning are:
Reading – In class each week we have a focus book which we read and talk about and then
complete a small learning activity on. Some of the books include: Breaking Promises by Joy Berry, If only I had a
Green Nose by Max Lucado, I’m an astronaut by Pauline Cartwright and many more. Along with these books we are also
reading a very exciting chapter book. While the students eat their lunch each day we read The 27th Annual African
Hippopotamus Race. We are really enjoying this fabulous book and learning lots about persistence and
encouragement.
Literacy – We participate in a variety of different literacy activities each week. Every
Tuesday to Friday we have literacy groups that focus on reading, comprehending, writing, creating and spelling. We
are all very thankful to our parent helpers who come in each day to help us further with our work.
DIPL – As well as literacy groups we also complete work from DIPL. DIPL is Doorway into
Practical Learning. Each week we focus on a sound or blend and learn a spelling rule. We also have a spelling list
that helps us further develop our understanding of the rule. We love playing games like ‘Sparkle’ to help us
become better spellers.
Maths – In maths we all love playing lots of games and working hard with our numbers. We will
focus on a variety of different topics this year and look forward to discovering many new ways of working out
problems.
Integrated topic – In Term One we will be studying ‘Flying and Falling.’ We are all
thrilled to learn about how and why things fly and are looking forward to all the hands on experiments that will
take place.
Our class focus for this year is to learn more about our God given gifts and talents and to realise what an
amazing thing it is to be made by God. The students will continually be encouraged to achieve their best and I look
forward to the journey of self discovery we will share together this year. It is so amazing to see the students
desire to sing and praise God each day.
Our bible verse for the year is:
‘I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, know that full well.’ Psalm 139:14
(NIV)
