About Grade 5/6 Mrs Tucker
A message from Susan Tucker: Grade five-Six Class Teacher
As a teacher I am overjoyed by the spontaneity of children, their pleasure in the
world around them and their thirst to learn. It is a privilege to be part of their journey towards
maturity.
For children to learn they need to:
- be motivated, captivated and engaged.
- feel safe, secure and loved.
- know the boundaries set around them are fair and that a strong caring adult
will enforce them.
- be listened to.
- interact in a hands on way with their learning and have fun.
- move and talk.
- know that their work is important and valued and that excellence is to be
striven for.
- be secure in the knowledge that their differences will be seen and catered
for.
- have a strong set of values and a moral compass.
- know that it is alright to get things wrong.
I aim to provide a high quality classroom environment in which children can learn
and grow and in which all of these considerations are taken into account.
Year Six is an important year in the life of the students at Heatherton Christian
College. It is a time when all of what has been learnt at Primary School ‘comes together’ in preparation for High
School. I aspire to fill in any gaps that the children may have in their understanding and challenge them to work
hard and be organised. Ever increasing independence, as tasks become more challenging, is highly prized.
Grade Six offers many special opportunities for the students such as having a Prep
Buddy, taking up a Leadership position, leading worship in assemblies, participating in Inter-School Sports and
going on camp.
Most importantly, we read the Bible together daily joining together in prayer and
devotions. The children, and I, ask God to be with us as we learn and relate together. We praise and thank Him for
His many blessings given to us all. I encourage the children to grow in their knowledge and love of our precious
saviour, Jesus Christ.
It gives me deep pleasure to watch the children grow and gain in personal
confidence as the year moves on.
God bless you all!
