About
Grade 6E, 2010
Our 15 Grade 6E students are wonderful! They are eager to learn, cooperative, creative, musical,
and encouraging towards each other. They enjoy reading a wide variety of genre and they are active listeners to
stories, particularly adventurous biographies.
We are learning about Federation, the Constitution and Parliament. There are some creative 3D
models of Canberra’s Parliament House gracing our room as well as a time line of events leading to Federation. We
are looking forward to a Parliamentary session being run at school and learning how our voting system works.
The students’ spelling and general understanding of how our language works is improving weekly
as we use DIPL (Doorway into Practical Literacy) as a major tool for this skill development. Maths is loads of fun,
especially the ‘Ladder’ game with Mrs Burgess. They are enjoying the challenges of numbers well beyond the
millions. Roman numerals have been an enjoyable challenge, especially with larger numbers. There are a couple of
Sudoku champions in the class too!
Our curriculum is varied with a broad range of activities: Art, Music, French, PE, Sport, Tech
(wood), Library, Computer, Buddies (we delight in spending time with our Prep Buddies), Rotations (scrapbooking,
drama, worship).
Our devotional time each morning is a valued start to the day. We are focussing on Psalm 37 and
learning how to grow our trust in God. The students openly share their prayers and respect is shown for each other.
Being part of their developing faith is an honour and a privilege.
Mrs Jan Evans
