Y7 AND 8 SPORTS UPDATE

Years 7/8 Boys’ Cricket - 3 Feb 2010

Heatherton pulls off an amazing fight back to defeat Hillcrest
(Team 1) by the narrowest of margins.

Heatherton batted first and with Jeremy and Kyle being the main stayers, we set a modest score of 38 runs off 10 overs, losing 6 wickets (mostly caught). When Hillcrest batted they were already 20 runs after just 3 overs. We then slowed them down a little with capturing some key wickets but with 16 balls remaining, Hillcrest had already equalled our score. A wicket was then taken followed by 15 'dot' balls!! (i.e. no score made). These bowlers were Kyle, Kenji and Armand. Scores tied 6/38!

The Hillcrest teacher and I checked the Rules Book to find that if runs were tied, then which ever team had bowled the least wides and no-balls was declared the winner. With Heatherton bowling only 4 wides to Hillcrest's 8, Heatherton became the winner! AMAZING!

Years 7/8 Girl’s Softball - 3 Feb 2010

Heatherton defeated Maranatha (Team 2), 17 runs to 10.

While still learning some of the rules and ways of the game, the girls did well and showed plenty of promise. In fact, all girls made it safely to first base in both innings (with only one person going out on base) - an uncommon occurrence.

Best batters were Estelle (7B) and Grace (8B) who both had 2 safe hits and scored 2 runs each. Defensively, our pitchers Belina (8B) and Grace both threw plenty of strikes and were well supported by the catching of Estelle and some good fielding all around. Well done girls, on a good first up match!
