HCC Prefects 2009

HCC School Prefects 2009

The school is committed to small class sizes. This enables teachers to spend more quality individual time with each student. The biggest class in the school has just 23 students. Our average primary class size is 20. Our average secondary class size is 15.

Students participate in a wide range of sports. Heatherton Christian College is a member of the Oakleigh sports district and participates in inter-school sport weekly. Some of our students have gone on to represent the district at zone and state level. Rachel in Grade 6 was selected in the Victorian Primary Schools Girls soccer team in 2004. James in Grade 6 reached the final of the 100m sprint and hurdles in the Victorian state athletics championships at Bendigo in November 2006.

Every student is able to have individual instrumental tuition in piano from grade 2. The cost of the individual lessons is included in our school fees. We also offer private music lessons in a range of instruments, both during and after school. Further information about the private lessons may be found on our home page titled Creative Arts. Our school orchestra was formed in 2004. We also have a contemporary rock band for our secondary students.

Pastoral care is readily available. The College has a chaplain, Pastor Phil Plotnek. The school has a set of procedures and protocols in place before a child may be referred to Pastor Phil for counselling. Parental permission is essential before any counselling takes place. Pastor Phil is a fully qualified, experienced adolescent counsellor.

A highlight of the school year is our school camping program. A number of different camps are held for the various year levels.

Each year a major musical production is performed by the students. Each year we alternate between primary and secondary musicals. In 2009 it will be the primary students turn to perform.

Heatherton Christian College caters for overseas students.
The school is accredited by the Government authority to cater for overseas students (Provider-Heatherton Christian College, CRICOS Reg.No. 01894D).
